Kalamassery, Ernakulam (Kerala): A 14-year-old girl had been diagnosed with meningitis, which is a fatal fever caused by the swelling of the brain’s and spinal cord’s membranes. Her father passed away recently. She had been convalescing at her house when her father’s friends visited her.
Mannampillymukal Ravi, Punjayil Raju and Mannompillil Rajesh are the three neighbours that visited the girl, not to give her wishes for a speedy recovery but to gang rape her in September, this year.
The incident had come to light in the first week of October when workers of a local women’s help group suspected something wrong owing to her prolonged absence from school, reported The News Minute.
The self-help group, Kudumbasree, workers then notified the Kochi Childline about the girl’s absence. It was only when a team from the Childline reached her house and spoke with her that the horrific incident was unearthed. They had raped her while her parents had been away at work.
She had been admitted to the Kochi Medical College owing to the internal and external injuries she had sustained as a result of the horror she was subjected to. She passed away on 12th December, 2016, reports DNA.
The three accused had been arrested. The police are blaming infections that resulted from the gang rape to be the main cause of the minor’s untimely death.
